1. What is a drawer slide, and how does it work ?
A drawer slide is a system made up of rails and ball bearings that allows the smooth movement of a drawer or tray. There are two main types :
- C‑slide: 3 parts (cabinet member, intermediate member, drawer member).
- I‑slide: symmetrical sliders with a central moving element.
They are also known as ball bearing slides or telescopic slides.
Other names can also describe this guiding system: telescopic slide, ball slide, sliding door guide, and more.
2. What is the difference between a drawer slide and a linear slide ?
A drawer slide offers long extension travel, allowing a drawer to fully open. A linear slide, on the other hand, guides an element such as a door or panel over a shorter distance.
Other differences include :
- Drawer slides are usually installed in pairs, while linear slides are mounted individually.
- Full extension is possible with drawer slides but more limited with linear slides.
- Locking mechanisms are often available on drawer slides but rarely on linear guides.
3. What are drawer slides used for ?
They facilitate the movement of heavy loads in many applications :
- Medical : hospital beds, ambulance equipment
- Railway : doors, battery trays
- Industrial : machines, dispensers, racks
4. Can these slides handle heavy loads ?
Yes. Chambrelan offers models capable of supporting up to 1,500 kg, with closed lengths up to 2 meters (6.5 ft) and extensions up to 3 meters (10 ft).
5. What extension options are available ?
There are three types of extension :
- Partial extension (60–70 %) : 2 sections
- Full extension (100 %) : 3 sections
- Super extension (150 %) : 4 sections
6. Are Chambrelan slides easy to install ?
Yes. Many options are available (locking systems, vertical mounting, double extension, etc.), and all technical drawings are supplied for direct integration into CAD/CAM systems.
7. What materials are available for the slides ?
Three materials are available, depending on the application :
- Steel : versatile.
- Aluminum : lightweight
- Stainless steel : corrosion‑resistant, ideal for food processing or high-humidity environments
8. What surface treatment is applied ?
Slides receive an anti‑corrosion treatment :
- White zinc coating for steel.
- Clear anodizing for aluminum.
Additional treatments are available upon request.
9. Do slides require maintenance ?
They are factory pre‑lubricated and require minimal maintenance. More frequent servicing is recommended in demanding environments.
10. Can I order custom slides ?
Yes. In addition to a wide range of standard models, Chambrelan designs custom‑built slides to meet your specific requirements. Contact us for more information.
